We get it. Back-to-school ads are everywhere and the Halloween decorations have already hit the big-box stores. Meanwhile, you’re just trying to enjoy as many summer swim days as possible. Who wants to think about Christmas in August?

We’ll tell you, there are two kinds of people who get worked up about Christmas well before Labor Day: Those who are obsessed with the holiday season and those who want to make the most of their Christmas decorating budget. (Both can be true – Christmas-obsessed, budget-minded shoppers are our favorite customers!)

And they may be onto something: There are some good arguments for shopping early for your Christmas decorations. Here are the top five reasons we’re starting to decorate for Christmas in August.

1. Beat the Buying Rush

“Shop early for best selection” isn’t just a sales pitch, it’s a fact of life. The most popular items generally sell out the quickest.

And while we have hundreds of styles of Christmas trees, wreaths, garland, ornaments and all the trimmings, some items are available in very limited quantities. That means the decorations you’ve got your eye on in August might not be around in October. Shop now, or you could lose out on owning an item you love.

We offer decorations at all price points – and we’re planning plenty of seasonal sales starting this month! Combined with free shipping on orders over $77, August could be the best time to catch a deal on beautiful Christmas decor.

2. Stretch Your Decorating Dollars

You know how it is during the holidays – demands on your wallet multiply and your expenses all seem to pile on at once. From entertaining and going out with friends to gift shopping and charitable donations, there’s little left in the budget by December for new Christmas decorations.

Thank goodness it’s only August! Chances are, it’s easier to splurge a little on Christmas decorations in late summer than it will be in a couple of months. You can even spread the expense out over time to make things easier on the budget.

Treating yourself to fabulous new Christmas decor now means one less demand on your finances come December.

3. Find Early Christmas Deals

You might think a Christmas decor sale only happens when the weather turns cooler. The fact is, though, that you can almost always find Christmas bargains at Christmas Central!

Sales like our Christmas Clearance in January, our Memorial Day Sale, Christmas in July and other sales throughout the year, are among the regular promotions featuring significant off-season savings on Christmas decorations.

Plus, we offer clearance deals 365 days a year on thousands of items, including Christmas and holiday decor.

4. Get it Before it’s Gone

To work through continued supply chain interruptions, Christmas merchants have become more selective about the type and quantity of Christmas decor we purchase from overseas manufacturers.

The results are a more curated selection and an environment where it might not be possible to restock items that sell out. The decor you love may never be available again.

Shopping early lets you snap up limited supplies so you don’t miss out!

5. First Dibs on This Year’s Styles

There’s one more advantage to shopping early – snagging new arrivals in the latest colors and designs as soon as they arrive!

Few things are as fun as being an “early adopter” of a new Christmas trend. From the emerging importance of burgundy and old gold accents to the increased interest in brown Christmas decorations, shopping early shows you’ve got your fingers on the pulse of this year’s Christmas styles.

It’s Never Too Early for Christmas Deals!

August may seem too soon for Christmas, but clearly there are some excellent incentives to beat the Christmas crowd.

We encourage you to check our website early and often for promotions on Christmas trees and decor. Browse our clearance section for amazing deals on overstock and close-out products.

And if you aren’t already on our email list, head to the bottom of our homepage to sign up for alerts on all our sales and new arrivals.

We bet you’ll be singing “Deck the Halls” before your swimsuit dries!

Christmas Central Answers Your Christmas Decorating Questions

Which decorations are safe for my pets?

There’s nothing that kills the jolly holiday vibe quicker than having a Christmas tree knocked over by your beloved furry friend. Or worse - an emergency trip to the vet because they swallowed something they shouldn’t have.

Pets can show an intense curiosity over Christmas decorations, sometimes with disastrous consequences. But, just as you would child-proof your home, there are precautions you can take to make the holiday decorating season safer for your fur baby.

Here are some strategies for holiday decorating with pets:

  • Anchor your tree to the wall or ceiling or surround it with a pet fence.

  • Use shatterproof decorations to avoid potential injuries.

  • Don’t leave pets unattended around your Christmas tree.

  • Flameless LED candles are long-lasting and safer to use around pets.

  • Place treasured ornaments where a paw or tail won’t knock them over.

  • Pick up needles from your real tree and any plastic shed from your artificial tree; both can irritate your pet’s stomach.

  • Avoid flocked trees and decorations that tend to shed.

  • Hang ornaments using yarn, ribbon or specially designed pet-safe ornament hooks.

What’s the best way to decorate a Christmas tree?

There’s a certain order to decorating a Christmas tree that makes the process easier and more enjoyable.

  1. Set up your tree. Place a real Christmas tree in a tree stand that can support its height and will hold ample water.

  2. Place the base of your artificial tree in its stand, then add the remaining sections and fluff.

  3. Hang the lights. If you add more lights to your pre-lit tree, plug them in separately from the pre-wired lights.

  4. Place the tree topper. Especially for tall trees, it’s easier to do this now than after decorating the tree.

  5. Add the garland, if desired, along with any ribbons, bows, ornamental picks and sprays.

  6. Hang your ornaments! Stand back occasionally to judge the full effect and fill in any bare spots.

  7. If you like the retro look of icicle tinsel, now is the time to add it.

  8. Spread your tree skirt around the bottom of the tree and drape it to hide the base.
