Our Christmas trees are compressed for shipping, so when you first take your tree out of the box, it might look less full than it did online.
We suggest working row by row and expanding each branch tip at different angles in a 'V' shape. Start closest to the trunk and work your way out.
Not a fan of expanding and shaping your tree? Check out our line of Elite trees that have memory wire attached that help the tree keep its shape once you've done the inital shaping.
Real Touch Elite trees by Northlight maintain the realistic look but include extra features such as multi-light colors and functions as well as memory wire branches, and instant connect pole technology.
The main factors to think about when picking out your Christmas tree are size, lighting, realism, and budget.
Size: If you are putting a tree topper on your tree, plan to buy a tree that's at least one foot shorter than your ceiling height.
Lighting: Decide if you want a pre-lit or unlit tree, and if you prefer a pre-lit tree, think of what color and type of light you'd prefer.
Realism: Trees range from traditional branches to more realistic molded branches. If your tree is only going to be viewed from a distance you could save money with a less realistic tree. If you want a showstopper of a tree that looks like it came out of the forest, opt for a more realistic tree.
Budget: Our 6.5' trees range in price from $74.99 to $1,654.99 so having a budget in mind can help you narrow down your choices.
Most designers say you should have 100 lights per foot, so that would be 700 lights for a 7' Christmas tree. BUT that rule is flexible. Let's break it down...
Last year we saw a very bright trend where influencers and designers were covering every branch of their trees in lights, from the pole all the way to the tips of the branches. If that's your style, you'll need closer to 3,000 lights. Many people who like a fully-illuminated look use warm white cluster lights to achieve that glow.
Another trend is mixing lights. You might choose to string 450 multi-color incandescent mini lights throughout your tree, then make a statement with a few sets of C7 multi-color lights.
Lastly if candle light is more your thing, aim for around 200-300 incandescent mini lights, then add flickering clip-on candle lamps for a cozier tree look.
Remember that LED lights tend to be brighter than incandescent lights and light colors vary between LED and incandescent.
If you have a standard 36" front door, a 24" to 26" wreath would be best.
Find one for every season. Here are our favorite spring wreaths, summer wreaths, fall wreaths, and Christmas wreaths.
FYI: Most wreaths are best on a front door that is covered or enclosed with a storm door to protect them from the elements and keep them looking great year after year.
We also sell outdoor acrylic Christmas decorations. These heavy duty and sturdy outdoor decorations are rising in popularity for Christmas and winter decorating. Acrylic decorations are great for harsh winters. They are weather-resistant, UV resistant, and durable.
See our in-stock acrylic outdoor Christmas decorations here.
Incandescent light bulbs contain a thin wire filament that glows white-hot when electricity flows through it. That filament is enclosed in a vacuum-sealed glass bulb. A lot of light produced by incandescent bulbs is actually infrared, which is not visible but emits a lot of heat. This makes them less efficient and much warmer to the touch than LED bulbs.
LED bulbs are illuminated using a Light-Emitting Diode. Energy passes through a semiconductor that produces visible light and next to no heat, so LEDs stay cool to the touch. Since the bulbs can be made of durable plastic and there is no filiment to burn out, LED lights last much longer. In addition, they use much less wattage than incandescent bulbs. We aren't great at predicting the future, but we did ask Mrs. Claus and she's hoping these Christmas trends will make an appearance this year:
And there are some TikTok trends we are hoping carry over from last year, too: Velvet ribbons, 90's Aesthetic, Ralph Lauren Luxe, Maximalist & Bright, Evergreen & Emerald.
Keep an eye out for elevated blow molds and inflatables this year, too!
1. Buying an artificial tree over a real tree will save you money in the long run. You can also save big by purchasing a less realistic tree or an unlit tree.
2. Mix new items with your existing (or hand-me-down) decorations. If you have a new color palette in mind, start with a large ornament set. You'll be amazed at what a few new color pops can accomplish.
3. Check our sales and clearance categories for great discounts throughout the year. We always have a large Christmas In July Sale, and our After Christmas Deals are a great time to stock up for the next season.
4. Some of our favorite items that have a great price point for the wow-factor are the Northen Pine Collection, Canadian Pine Collection, large strings of lights, shatterproof ornament sets, inflatable Christmas decorations, and all of our close-out Christmas clearance items.
Aside from the tried and true traditional Christmas colors we all love, we think these color combinations will be popular for Christmas this year:
2. Navy with Deep Reds and Emerald
3. Royal Blue with Burnt Orange and Teal Green
The best part of the Christmas season is how it makes us feel. Keep that in mind with whatever theme you choose for your Christmas tree this year.
Over the top Christmas tree themes: 90's Nostalgic, Maximalist
Traditional Christmas tree themes: Red & Green, Silver & Gold, Red & White, Peppermint, Gingerbread
Understated Christmas tree themes: Neutral & Natural, Monochromatic
If you have unwired velvet ribbon, you can create small bows, attach them to clips and clip them to your tree, or tie them directly on your tree. We also love a velvet bow at the end of a drapey garland on a banister.
If you have structured and/or wired ribbon, traditional bows will hold up well. We like to see a structured bow on the top of a tree in lieu of a tree topper, or go HUGE and make one the size of your front door. Structured bows also look great on a wreath, either centered at the top or bottom (12 or 6 o'clock), or our personal favorite, just off center (2, 4, 8 or 10 o'clock).
