Beyond Christmas: Discover the Year-Round Magic of Wreaths for Every Season
Jan 18th 2024

What comes to mind when you hear the word “wreath?” Maybe it’s a pine wreath decorated with ribbon and ornaments, or a shiny and colorful ornament wreath.
There’s no doubt that Christmas wreaths are a popular holiday decoration. However, if you think decorative wreaths are limited to Christmas time, you’re missing out on the many ways wreaths can be used to beautify your home throughout the year.
What is a Wreath?
A wreath is a construction of leaves, flowers, vines, twigs, fruits and other materials twined into a shape like a ring, circlet or heart.
Wreaths have been around for millenia, when they were as much a decoration as a fashion accessory. The Ancient Greeks placed wreaths on their doors in hopes of a good harvest or as a symbol of victory. Elite Greek citizens also wore wreaths as crowns or necklaces.
Christians later used the ring shape of the wreath to symbolize the neverending life in God promised by Christ.
The Versatility of the Wreath
Clearly, the wreath is closely associated with Christmas. However, wreaths come in many styles and can be made from many different materials. They are an extremely versatile decoration that can be displayed throughout the year.
Floral wreaths, for instance, can bring color and life to your home in the spring and summer. Similarly, fall wreaths made of leaves and dried materials reflect the brilliant tones and textures of autumn.
Celebrate Valentine’s Day with a heart-shaped valentine wreath of artificial red roses. Similarly, a black wreath with orange pumpkins and plastic spiders makes a spooky Halloween accent. You can find a red, white and blue patriotic wreath for Memorial Day and Fourth of July, as well as wreaths in bright pastels for your Easter decor.
Special occasions call for special wreaths. Fashioned in colors that complement a wedding theme, a wreath can be incorporated beautifully into wedding decor. Use a floral wreath as part of a bridal arch, as aisle markers or reception decorations.
Where to Use a Seasonal Wreath
Like the Christmas wreath, seasonal wreaths can be used to beautify many areas of your home.
Think of a wreath as the home decor equivalent of a wardrobe accessory. You probably already have a hook or nail in place for your Christmas wreath. That makes updating your home’s look with a new wreath season after season as easy as putting on a sunhat or a new pair of shoes.
Let’s look at some of the ways a wreath can be incorporated into your home decor.

Plain or Pre-Decorated?
A pre-decorated wreath is the easiest type of wreath to use. The materials and colors have already been chosen and coordinated to reflect a theme and style. All you need to do is hang it!
On the other hand, some people enjoy making their own seasonal wreath. A plain wreath is the perfect foundation for a DIY wreath project. Add ornaments, dried or silk florals, ribbons and bows and other decorations for a one-of-a-kind creation that reflects your decor and personal style.
Need a Decor Boost? Hang a Wreath

Wreaths can be propped on a mantel, laid on a tabletop, hung on a door or any blank wall to add instant personality to your home.
If your decor is looking a little ho-hum these days, maybe it’s time to hang a wreath!
