Christmas Luminaria Bags

Luminaria Bag Information

Luminarias are a specialized type of decoration. Originating in the Southwestern United States during the days of Spanish rule, these paper bags weighted with sand and containing a lit candle were originally known as farolitos. The name Luminaria referred to a controlled bonfire that the bags often were associated with, before more or less replacing the older item.

As noted, the traditional luminaria is a paper lantern made of a bag weighted with sand, with a lit candle inside. They are often used to line paths or walkways much like garden stakes, or are arranged in elaborate patterns as ground level lighting designs.

We offer several versions of luminarias, both traditional and not. Most of our luminarias include a plastic designed bag as well as a special base for weighting, usually by filling with water. Although some of our luminarias have candles like the original, just as often flameless LED candles or strings of lights are used in their place. Through cutout designs, we offer them for multiple holidays and seasons, so be sure to give them a look.
