The History of June 25th

We all know that Michael Jackson died last night. But here are some other notable events that have landed on June 25th.

1950 - The Korean War begins.  It all started over an argument Angela and I had. Just kidding. She said it was ok to say that.

1975 - Mozambique declares independence over Portugal.

1938 - Douglas Hyde becomes  the first president of Ireland

1875 - Custer’s Last Stand. George Armstrong Custer, commander of the 7th U.S. Cavalry and 260 troopers are killed by Sioux Indians, led by Crazy Horse, at the Battle of Little Big Horn in Montana.

2009 - Michael Jackson dies

2009 - Farah Fawcett dies first.

Come on Mother Nature, What Did I Ever Do To You?

Posted Under Office Ramblings - Tags: , , , ;

I am really taking this personally.  It just so happens that tonight is the ONE night, that I can actually go out, and enjoy what should be a lovely evening in June.  Instead the skies look like they are going to cave in.  I swear the clouds look like SNOW CLOUDS.  I know it is too warm to snow, but come on!!  I can’t imagine what I did to deserve this!!  It is just really unfair.  So please Mother Nature, if you must proceed with this storm that you have decided to send my way, would you be so kind as to end it by 4pm.  I don’t really think I am asking much!  I just get it over with!!  Come on rain you only have approximately 2 hours and 8 minutes to do your thing.  Then please alert MR. SUN to work his magic.   Thanks Mother Nature, it has been a pleasure to do business with you.

The Best Thing About Today

Sun Is The Enemy

I have been very interested in the sun lately and really bad movies. There are a few things that the sun can do that make for crazy happenings in the movies. Take the movie “Twilight“. Did you know that when a member of Ace of Base hangs outside of Ikea and is exposed to the sun, his face turns into glitter? The Sun is crazy.

Just take “Weekend At Bernie’s” for instance. Bernie is all sorts of dead, but he still gets to bask in the summer sun, hit the beach and romp out like the life of the party. Get it?

The Fly!

What should I blog about on this fine Monday afternoon?  It’s a question that I always find myself asking.  I would love the gods of the blogosphere to bring me an inspiration right about now.  Come on blog gods, I am waiting.

Ok, so it literally just flew right past me.  A fly that is.  Which of course leads me to an excellent blogging subject!

Did you see President Obama kill the fly?  I really don’t want to offend any fly lovers, but I am sorry, I don’t understand why this was such a big deal.  I mean, it’s a fly.  Don’t we have more important things to worry about in this world than the President swatting at a disease-carrying insect.  Yes of course I am jumping to conclusions that this particular fly had a disease, but really, do we have to FLY off the handle like this?

I can’t imagine what it is like living in the spotlight like that.  Having to think before you do anything. I prefer to FLY by the seat of my pants and I for one wouldn’t ever think twice about swatting a fly out of the air, (or killing a spider on someone’s wall, You’re Welcome Sairose)

So really, give Mr. Obama a break on this one, or Go FLY a kite!!

Cell Phone Peeves

Posted Under Home Decor, Office Ramblings - Tags: , , , ;

Ok so I feel that I need to bring up some annoyances I have with cell phone usage.

1.  I find it extremely aggravating when people feel the need to use their cell phones while they are driving. First of all, and most importantly, it is against the law.  Second, you are not concentrating on what you are supposed to be doing and it makes you drive like an ass, because you aren’t paying attention to the damn road.  As a non-driver, I find this extremely annoying, so I can only imagine how I would feel if I were a driver myself.

2.  When people are supposed to be working, but they are not because they are paying more attention to their phones instead. Hello? You are at work.

3.  I also find it very annoying when people who are working out at the gym choose to chat it up on their phone, whilst working out. Come on now, shouldn’t you be out of breath and not able to hold a conversation on the phone. You obviously need to step it up and work a little harder.

4.  Or when people are at the hairdresser and they choose to sit and talk on their phone. I think it’s very rude towards the person doing your hair and trying to make you look pretty. At least have some consideration and talk to them, even if it makes you feel awkward. That’s all I have to say about that.

5.  One of my biggest dislikes for cell phone usage. When you are at dinner with someone, please leave your phone in your pocket or handbag. Do not sit there and text, or even dare to take it out and talk on it should someone call you. How rude! I think it’s just disgusting.

6.  Most people go to the movies to watch a movie, not sit and listen to someone whispering on their phone next to them, or have this light from someone’s phone distract them from the corner of your eye. PLUS…they even politely ask you, on your way into the movie, and also right on the big screen before the movie begins, to turn off your phone.

    Martini Night

    santas

    Angela and I like martinis. You know, BOGO, 2-4-1, what have you.  We meshed friends. My friend wore a beard. I wore a wonderful smile while taking care of some wondrous martinis with nicknames like “The Cable Car” and ”Orange Sunrise.”  Angela’s roommate suggested The Cable Car because I believe she has a preternatural interest in Bacardi 151 rum, aka firewater.

    Angela had her own special martinis. On was dubbed “The Sidewinder” and contained Sambuca, honey, Champagne, Jagermeister, and Apple Cider.  Another personal creation was called the “Shock and Awe,” which is by far her favorite creation ever. This drink contains Tequila Rose, Bleu Cheese Loganberry, Rumpleminze, Wild Irish Rose, Sparks and cinnamon sticks.  Actually, that isn’t true. But we did get martinis together and Angela’s friend has a friend named LaToya, for real!

    Bloomsday

    Yesterday, ladies and gentlemen (June 16), was Bloomsday.  Not only was it the day that Ulysses begins, the day also commemorates Joyce’s first day with his future wife Nora.  The name Bloomsday comes from the main character in Ulysses, Leopold Bloom, for all who do not know.

    Ulysses Even with these books, Ulysses STILL goes on another 200 pages

    I was introduced to Joyce academically in 2005, through Dubliners, and “Two Gallants” became one of my favorite short stories ever.  It took me over 4 months to read Ulysses entirely. So dense, so full of puns, sarcasm, modernism in stream of consciousness writing, that my young mind could barely wrap itself around the text. Joyce once said he wrote Ulysses to be mulled over by scholars for eternity, therefore ensuring literary immortality. Ulysses became such a triumph for me at this point in my life. My edition clocked in at nearly 800 pages, each page barely decipherable due to allusions and parody which my young and hardly academic mind could understand.

    To Joyce, Bloom, Dedelus and the readers of every Joyce novel, Enjoy Bloomsday.

    Well Why Don’t You Blog About It?

    Posted Under Home Decor - Tags: , , , , ;

    Sorry dear friends of the blogisphere, I have been ignoring you.  Don’t worry, I am well aware that chances are I am talking to myself.  But I am very sorry that I have been neglectful.  I meant to write, several times, and then well there is this pressing issue of MLB merchandise, which is going rather splendidly if I may say!  But I guess I have really been absent from the ol’ world o’ blog because I have really had nothing creative to blog about.

    Which of course gives me an idea!

    “BLOG” or these catch words that have turned themselves into verbs.  It’s funny.  My 80 year old grandfather has never been on a computer a day in his life.  When I was at his house visiting not to long ago, we were all discussing something, and I said something about “I’ll have to Google it”.  Then after I said that, I realized my poor Grandfather probably had no idea what I was talking about..  So I asked him, do you know what Google means, and he replied ”I’ve heard of it”

    It really is quite funny to think that on that specific day, I was surrounded by such a generation gap.  My sister’s 4 year old can probably find her way around a computer better than I can, and then Grandpa has never “googled” anything in his life.  Yet of course the 4 year old has never heard the sound of a crackling fire when playing a vinyl record.  Grandpa in fact still has a rotary phone…(it’s Mickey Mouse, which was my Grandma’s favorite).

    So I guess my blog of the day is just about WOW, how things have changed!!!  (go ahead Sabrina, Saroise, and Teena, and pick on me for being old….Go ahead, I can take it)

    Strange Places To Find Fontanini

    So it has been back to reality this past week, and a long week at that. I have been working on our wonderful collection of Fontanini Nativities, which brings me to what I am going to say next.

    So as you know I was on vacation in Florida for the past week or so. Of course we went to Disney, my first time, and of course I had the most unbelievable time ever. It was absolutely fantastic. Indescribable. When we were there we went to Epcot and around the world. We went to most of the different countries, one of which was Italy. Whilst in Italy, I was walking around and stumbled across this huge collection of Fontanini that they carry. I got so excited and couldn’t believe that I had actually come across Fontanini somewhere outside of work, let alone Disney!!! (Needless to say, it doesn’t take much to make me excited) Pretty sad you might say, but I thought it was pretty neat.

    Anyways, that’s all I got for ya. Happy Friday!!
